It is EU-wide project that launched in May 2020 to pave the way for next-generation intelligent sensing for health and automotive solutions. Brno University of Technology developed „Wearable vitality monitor“ as a proof of concept that is the system of wearable devices connected via Bluetooth with a gateway (smartphone, router). The data are processed partially in wearable devices (data compression) and in a smartphone or a laptop to recognize activities, calculate some physiological parameters and display them. The demonstrator also presents the first algorithms to provide vitality assessment and health image.
Wearable vitality monitor is the first version of product, demonstrated in September 2021, which is used to introduce the use and functionality of the implemented system for monitoring human vitality. This system consists of several wearable wireless devices used for continuous monitoring of physical activity and manifestations of the human body, on the basis of which the individual's vitality is estimated. An example of a demonstrator is shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Demonstration of Wearable vitality monitor collecting data and processing simultaneously with vitality evaluation and displaying by smart application in time.
The demonstrator works with off-line data captured during various physical activities and a simultaneously acquired video recording of a moving measured individual. Visually, the displayed measured data is checked, including the evaluated activities and the determination of vitality with respect to reality. The measured signals are also displayed in a mobile application, including evaluation, which is a practical output that is evaluated by a demonstrator. This procedure can verify the basic concept of the system, it is possible to optimize computational algorithms and minimize the number and types of sensors used.
The following devices for sensing biological signals and movement were used in the demonstrator "Wearable vitality monitor v1.0": Empatica E4, BiosignalsPlux, Bittium Faros 180 and Perspiration rate sensor. The VO2 Master Pro - VO2 oxygen volume sensor, Wahoo Tickr HR chest strap (works with VO2 Master), smartphone IMU and Garmin Forerunner 935 smart watch for GPS data recording were also used to validate the system. In Figure 2, all devices are visible directly on the measured subject
