Life After PhD With Eva Hollenbach

O akci

Join us for September's session of the Life after PhD event series. This time we welcome – Eva Hollenbach from BASF SE.

Eva received her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Heidelberg. Afterwards she started her PhD at the Center for Plant Molecular Biology at the University of Tübingen. The focus of her research studies was alternative splicing and its regulation by polypyrimidine-tract binding proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana. After finishing her PhD in 2012, Eva joined, as a postdoc, the research group of Prof. Maizel at the Centre for Organismal Studies at the University of Heidelberg. Here, her research dealt with trans-acting siRNAs and the goal was to shed more light on the appearance of ta-siRNAs. Having said that most of her research focused on RNA research in plants, she was highly qualified for a new opportunity in industry: BASF SE offered a postdoc position with the focus on sprayable RNAi as crop protection solution. Here, she developed together with a team of technicians different tools and methods to explore the regulation of externally applied RNAi molecules as herbicide. In 2015, she moved to the position of Laboratory manager, where her team focused on enzyme assay development for experimental compounds, automated in vitro tests for known MoAs and enzyme mutagenesis to develop herbicide tolerant crops. In addition to the Laboratory manager function, Eva had project responsibilities. One very interesting collaboration with an Israelian company targeted on the development of new herbicides based on in silico modelling. Since September 2020, she acts as Global Technical Product Manager with focus on Food, Feed, Pharma and Crop applications of Inorganic salts. In her new role, Eva is responsible for the innovation management in her department, developing several innovation projects that target food and feed applications and supporting customers for all technical questions they face.

Eva is willing to share her experience with you. What difficulties did she face? What would she recommend to young scientists?

Please, register here: https://forms.office.com/r/tUeweEjeu5 (until 30.8.2021).

The lecture will be held in English.

This event is part of the online series "Career Café Live" within the Twinning project INTEG-RNA.
